You’ve been busted! Caught! Maybe you were caught in a lie. Maybe you stretched the truth on your resume and now find yourself in a job you cannot do. Maybe you’ve manipulated people and situations and now are being called on it.

We all have.

The test of a leader is what you do when you’ve been found out. Do you continue to try to smooth things over? Do you try to talk your way out of it? Or do you face the consequences and do the hard work of making things right?

What you’ve been trying to hid is now clearly in the open. “The Emperor has no clothes!” the young boy cries.

The toothpaste is out of the tube and cannot be put back in. Now the mess is obvious. Do you want to to clean it up? Or would you rather draw smiley faces with your dirty little fingers in the globby toothpaste puddle?

When I first got out of nursing school the administration offered to promote me to a supervisory level of a 180 bed facility. I firmly said no at that time because I did not feel qualified. It was tempting, I thought, but not for me.
I think that is one key to knowing where you have reached the physical end of oneself in a situation. Then making a good decision that you can live with. An honest assessment with yourself is good so it doesn’t get to the point of “the emperor has no cloths”.

Another situation is where you are lined up in your destiny by design. Then when you get to the end of yourself, you take authority over your position/person. This becomes providence. When providence happens, God is in control. You understand the mechanisms by which you got into a predicament and have the understanding at what point to let go and let God.

John Maxwell is a great leader/instructor. We have been doing bible studies with his material weekly. My husband’s boss does monthly leadership meetings with his staff.
