About

J.J. Buckfart is a pseudonym for me, Jason (Jay) Dampier. I got the nickname from my Grandfather, Capt. Jack Dampier, retired commercial fisherman and charter boat captain on Lake Superior’s Nipigon Bay. Somehow the name “J.J. Buckfart” has stuck over the years. I hold a masters degree in environmental education from Southern Connecticut State University and a masters degree in forestry from Lakehead University.

For a little over three years, I was on the pastoral team at Redwood Park Church and Redwood Park Opportunities Centre. I am currently maintaining my credentials with the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada and also currently hold a volunteer-leader position at Redwood. During my time at Redwood, I have quipped that I was a Forest Naturalist and Ecologist who was slowly becoming “Pastorized.” If you know anything about the paturization process, you may find the humour. Before entering vocational ministry in 2006, I was an educator with Cornell University Cooperative Extension in New York State and researcher/graduate student with Lakehead University.

Since the fall of 2009, I’ve been working at Lakehead University’s Centre for Analytical Services as their business developer. I am passionate about proper stewardship of the natural world and enjoy providing analytical services. It’s my hope that through the position that the analyses we provide help businesses make smart decisions and ones that consider the environment more completely. The university did a nice little write up on me a while ago, CLICK HERE to read it.

This blog is the outgrowth of my passion for communications, the environment, leadership and science.

My family and I live in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.
